The creators of the app boast that they have over 20 million people using their app. This is a huge number for an app, but it’s especially impressive for a productivity app.

But what is ToDoist?

ToDoist is a cloud-based productivity app that lets create to-do lists, collaborate on projects, schedule due dates, and much more.

And because its cloud based, ToDoist automatically syncs between any of your devices that have the app.

The first thing that I noticed about the ToDoist app is that it’s very intuitive. The user interface (UI) is user friendly and easy to navigate.

The developers at ToDoist didn’t clog up the app with too many button or menus. When you first log in it feels very familiar.

Adding tasks is quick and easy, all you need to do is press the plus button which is displayed on the bottom right of your screen and enter your details.

You can set up projects, add labels, and use filters to make finding your high priority tasks quick and easy.

You can also integrate the ToDoist app with other tools like Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, and Amazon Alexa.

The ToDoist app is free to download but to access some of the cool features like labels you have to sign up for their premium membership which costs $3/month, billed annually.

The Productive app is a great app for tracking habits and setting goals. Out of all the apps that I tested; the Productive app is the most user friendly.

The designers of this app did a great job with the layout and design. They made good use of icons and colors that make creating and tracking habits a breeze.

They even have some premade habits that you can choose from such as, health, fitness, social, and hobbies. If you choose to create your own habit, they have a large selection of different colored icons that you can use to customize your habit.

One of the features that I liked most about this app is the calendar. The calendar displays your streaks so you can see how consistent you have been with your habits. When you complete a habit, it will be marked as green.

Once you’ve completed several tasks in a row they will linked together and heighted green. The point is that you don’t want to break the chain. I found this feature very motivating.

There is also a boost feature that allows you to pick one of habits and receive notifications every 30 minutes. This feature is helpful for those really important tasks.

With the free version you can keep track of up to five habits, which you can between a selection of preset habits, or you can make your own custom habits.

Overall, I really like this app. I think it’s ideal for anyone who is interested in establishing healthy habits. Their UI is user friendly and they did a great job of adding gamification so sticking to your habits is more fun.

Evernote is the behemoth of all the productivity apps on my list. Currently, they have over 225 million users. Yes, that’s right, 225 million. Let that number sink in for a bit.

I had a hard time believing it when I first read it, but sure enough it’s real.

Now, with a user base of that size, Evernote must be doing something right. I was definitely eager to download the app and see what all the fuss was about.

As the name implies, Evernote is primarily a note taking app. However, you can also create to-do lists, upload and attach pictures, and save web pages, articles, and PDFs.

Evernote is organized into notes and notebooks. You can also use “stacks” to organize notebooks into categories which makes sorting through notebooks much easier.

One of the features that I liked most was being able to import and attach files to your notes. This feature allows you to take pictures, attach photos, record audio, add sketch, and attach files.

So, if you have a marketing plan drawn out on a whiteboard, just use the camera feature and attach the picture to your notes.

Evernote also has a powerful search function, so if you aren’t good about organizing your notes, the search function will track down your notes for you. Evernote can even read your handwriting, so if you can’t find one of you handwritten documents, no problem, Evernote can identify the keywords and track it down.

Another useful feature is Evernote’s template library. Their template library allows you to quickly create a daily planner, monthly calendar, project budget, habit tracker, and more.

Fantastical makes creating events and tasks quick and easy. For instance, when you enter a sentence like “Coffee with Steve at Starbucks at 9am tomorrow.” Fantastical will automatically makes suggestions for locations and invitees.

Fantastical also has a cool meeting feature that makes picking a day and time a breeze. For example, let’s say you create an event with multiple dates and times that work for you. I hear a lot of people talking about how great Skype is and how it’s the best video conferencing app available. I’m going to have to disagree.

It’s not that I don’t like Skype, it’s just that Zoom is better. I’ve used both services and I’ve had good experiences with both.

However, my good experiences with Zoom far outweigh my good experiences with Skype. One of the reasons I like Zoom so much is that it’s very consistent.

What I mean is that it works almost all the time and hardly ever drop calls. I can’t say the same about Skype. In fact, the reason I switched from Skype to Zoom was because my calls kept getting dropped.

This might not seem like much but it is a very useful feature. If you’ve ever been on a large video conference call, then you know how problematic the mute function can be.

One of the major benefits of using Zoom is the price. They have a free plan that offers room for up to 100 attendees, unlimited one on one meetings, and up to 40 minutes for group meetings. That’s more than any other video conferencing software that I’ve come across.

What sets Monday.com apart from everyone else is their user interface. They use color coded boards to show which tasks are finished, what projects are due, and where team members are stuck.

The layout of the colored boards is arranged in order of due dates so you can easily see what tasks are finished and what needs to get done.

Everything is centered around a main board which lists all the tasks and projects.

If a team member is having trouble with a task they can put “Stuck,” “Working on it” or “Done” status on each task.

If your clients are interested in seeing how things are progressing, you can invite them to view their board as a guest so they can see how their project is coming along.

For those who have been living under a rock, meditation is all the rage in the business world these days and Headspace is leading the meditation app pack.

In fact, Headspace boasts that they have over 30 million users. Clearly there is a strong demand for what they are selling.

So, what are they selling?

Meditation.

More specifically, mindfulness meditation.

Headspace offers guided meditations for the uninitiated. If you’ve tried meditating before and found it less than enjoyable, then Headspace is right for you.

Their loyal followers say things like “It works very well and has helped me a lot! I have only had it for 3 days and I already feel more self-aware and calmer”.

In addition to making you calmer, Headspace may also help to improve your productivity. In fact, research has shown that mindfulness meditation can improve working memory and reduce wind wandering.

In preparation for this article I decided to try out Headspace for myself. I’ve been using the app daily for almost 2 weeks and I must say I’m impressed.

The meditation sessions are guided by the co-founder of Headspace, Andy Puddicombe, who is a former Buddhist monk. Andy has a soothing British accent that can calm even the most frantic of minds, trust me.

I must admit that I was skeptical at first. I’ve been meditating for several years and I am bit of a meditation snob. Surprisingly, even with all my meditation practice my ego is still alive and well.

I first came across this app when I was searching for a way to track how I was spending my time each day. I tried a couple of time tracking apps, but Toggl was the clear winner.

What I like about Toggl is that it is straight forward and very easy to use. Once you’re logged into their app all you need to do is press the green play button, name your first task, and you’re ready to go.

Toggl’s desktop app also has an idle feature which will detect when you’re not working and either keep your idle time, discard it, or split it into a separate time entry.

What if you don’t like having to manually start and stop your timer? Not to worry. You can connect Toggl to Siri so you can start and stop your timer using just your voice.

You can also sync Toggl with any device so if you start using it on your browser and then switch over to your mobile app, all your times and tasks will be there.

Toggl also has a billable rate feature that allows you to keep track of your billable hours. Just enter your currency and rate and then Toggl will display your earned amount. This feature is especially useful for freelancers.

For all the data geeks out there, Toggl lets you import your tasks and times into reports and dashboards.
